Apple Apologises Over Handling of Issue, Drops Price of Out-of-Warranty Battery Replacements and also for the slowness

Highlights

  1.     Apple will offer battery replacements for $29, down from $79
  2.     Apple apologised over its handling of the issue
  3.   Will issue iOS update with greater battery life transparency

Facing lawsuits and consumer outrage after it said it slowed older iPhones with flagging batteries, Apple is slashing prices for battery replacements and will change its software to show users whether their phone battery is good.

In a posting on its website Thursday, Apple apologised over its handling of the battery issue and said it would make a number of changes for customers "to recognise their loyalty and to regain the trust of anyone who may have doubted Apple's intentions."

Apple made the move to address concerns about the quality and durability of its products at a time when it is charging $999 (roughly Rs. 64,000) for its newest flagship model, the iPhone X.

The company said it would cut the price of an out-of-warranty battery replacement from $79 (roughly Rs. 5,000) to $29 (roughly Rs. 1,850) for an iPhone 6 or later, starting next month. In India, the cost of out-of-warranty battery replacement was approximately Rs. 6,500 inclusive of taxes, as per industry sources. Apple has confirmed that the new price starting next month will be Rs. 2,000, exclusive of taxes. The company also will update its iOS operating system to let users see whether their battery is in poor health and is affecting the phone's performance.

"We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down," Apple said in its posting. "We apologise."

On December 20, Apple acknowledged that iPhone software has the effect of slowing down some phones with battery problems. Apple said the problem was that aging lithium batteries delivered power unevenly, which could cause iPhones to shutdown unexpectedly to protect the delicate circuits inside.

That disclosure played on a common belief among consumers that Apple purposely slows down older phones to encourage customers to buy newer iPhone models. While no credible evidence has ever emerged that Apple engaged in such conduct, the battery disclosure struck a nerve on social media and elsewhere.

Apple on Thursday denied that it has ever done anything to intentionally shorten the life of a product.

At least eight lawsuits have been filed in California, New York, and Illinois alleging that the company defrauded users by slowing devices down without warning them. The company also faces a legal complaint in France, where so-called "planned obsolesce" is against the law.

New technological update on cars today

2018 is coming and for tech-savvy drivers in the market for a new vehicle, the New Year means new gadgets. Automobiles today are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and while reliability, safety and the powertrain remain at the top of buyers’ importance lists, technology is a major selling point too.

Technology can be a helpful addition to a vehicle, but safety features should be on the top of every car owner’s list. Features like premium stereos, heated seats, and automatic parallel parking are nice to have.

Safety features that assist the driver and benefits everyone on the road should take top priority. All else can be considered later.
Below are five of the must-have technological components to look for when buying a new car this year and to keep everyone safe on the road.

1. Connected Mobile Apps

Smartphones have changed the way drivers interact with their vehicles substantially over the years. While many carmakers now offer some sort of connected smartphone app, it’s best to do some research to find the right one for you.

Apps that allow car owners to lock and/or unlock their vehicle remotely are great for extra security needs. There are also handy mobile apps that will keep the driver updated on things like fuel, oil, and tire pressure. Certain connected mobile apps can even start your vehicle for you on cold mornings. When you’re ready to go, your car seats will be warm and toasty.
Such apps can come in handy for those of us running a busy schedule. The only downside is that car-makers may charge a monthly or yearly fee for the service.

2. 360° Camera

Have you ever wanted to have eyes in the back of your head? This is as about as close as you can get.

A 360° camera system can make life a lot easier for drivers as a majority of low-speed crashes occur during parking. A camera on every side of the vehicle, plus modern day computing power, equals a much more aware driver. Drivers can get invaluable assistance with a virtual top-down view of their surroundings. With a 360° camera system, tasks such as backing out of the garage or properly lining up in a tight parking spot are much easier to perform.

3. Automatic Emergency Braking

While drivers should always be aware of the road around them, it doesn’t hurt to have a little backup, just in case. With a variety of sensors in place, the Automatic Emergency Braking or AEB kicks in as a last resort when an imminent forward collision crash is detected.

As its name suggests, automatic emergency braking will hit the brakes automatically to avoid a collision. This safety feature is extremely good and a worthy investment, but drivers should keep in mind that automatic emergency braking is not a replacement for the brake pedal. It’s a handy tool for older drivers who may not be able to react as fast as they’d like.
By 2022, Automatic Emergency Braking will be standard on all cars. These include all Audi, Mercedes Benz, Ford, BMW, Toyota, General Motors, Mazda, Tesla, Volkswagen, and Volvo models sold to the public.
Fortunately, drivers don’t have to wait until then to get an automatic emergency brake system. A lot of car manufacturers already offer automatic emergency braking in some of their current models. Be sure to inquire about it when shopping for new Subaru cars at your local dealer.

4. Lane Departure Warning

Sometimes drivers pay more attention to what’s happening in the back seat and less attention to the road. We’ve all been there at one point or another. By the time our eyes are back on the road ahead we find our vehicle drifting towards the wrong lane.

Lane departure warning is a safety feature that should alleviate such instances of distracted driving. Lane departure warning uses cameras to determine if and when a vehicle has drifted over a marked lane line. When lane drifting occurs, drivers are alerted visually, audibly, or even through vibration of the steering wheel.
A lane departure warning turns off automatically when the driver uses a directional to avoid an accidental engagement.

5. Wireless Charging

Having phone charging cords snaked through the vehicle can be annoying. Fortunately, more and more new cars have been fitted with wireless charging pads. With the addition of wireless charging pads, the need for charging cords become a thing of the past. Drivers can focus on the road as their phone charges and passengers won’t have to worry about getting tangled up in unnecessary cords. At the end of the trip, everyone’s happy.

15 ways to get your mobile app monetised

You spend endless hours creating that perfect app. You went to the Apple Store and “hit” the publish button and though…. “The downloads is going to explode now!”
But, nothing happened.
Only a few downloads, and a lot of embarrassment for you.
On top of this enormous issue is another problem for your app developers – i.e., monetizing your mobile apps.
You see, monetization is not only science. It is also an art, and today, in this article, I’ll show exactly 15 ways to do it.
So grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and read on 15 ways to monetize your mobile apps :

1. Ad placement

;It sounds obvious, but running ads is the most popular method of monetizing mobile applications.
To get more ROIs from your ad spends, make sure the ads do not look too intrusive and make the ads fit in context (contextual advertising ) with the content and theme of your app.
Run ads with those brands, products, or services that complement your business (not compete with yours).

2. Develop universal and easy to read code

You’ll make a good source of income by creating an app that is universal and easy to read (code-wise). These type of base app can later become a highly specialized app. For example, template copyrights can bring a significant amount of profit for the developers is because many companies want to buy ready-made-solutions, as they can get the branded solution quickly and inexpensively.
You can change your base app to the unique needs of your customer.
Customizing the app is also super easy, as you only need to change the front-end design (“White Label Solution.”)

3. Charge people have the ads removed
from your apps

While it’s true that many users don’t care if there’s an ad running across the screen, others would pay money to have it removed.

4. Offer in-app purchases

Your app download is most likely free, just like most apps on app store. Most app downloads are free. However, once people start to use your app more, they might be interested in making in-app purchases to improve their experience.
To make in-app purchases easier, Google and Apple offer billing services. However, they don’t have full coverage in the international markets.
For example, people living in Brazil usually don’t use cards (credit cards and scratch cards) so making in-app purchases is not possible for them. They don’t have scratch card printing services in their country, and hence, they cannot get it printed and use it make in-app purchases.

5. Propose a subscription-based service.

You won’t have a stable recurring income from your mobile app until you have monthly recurring revenue business model. Sometimes, there will be good months and occasionally the opposite.
With unstable revenue, taking your business to the next level can be an uphill battle.
However, there’s a solution to it.
You can add subscription-based model which will be more stable and deliver you more predictable income.
Your users only need to submit their bank card details once, and until they cancel it, they’ll continue to get billed, generating recurring income for your business.

6. Keep testing.

If you’re not sure how your app users are using your apps or what’s the best method of monetizing your app, then don’t just leave it to guesswork. Until you have real data, you won’t know for sure. But once you have user data, you can then begin split testing to make big profits down the road. (You can gather user data from Google Analytics.)

7. Make your free app a ‘premium’ app.

If possible, don’t offer a free version of your app. Make sure to keep the cost of the app low to prevent scaring people away, nonetheless, charge a little as download fee.
You’ll also filter out users who aren’t interested in your app. And those who will pay are often the ones who are going to be engaged, responsive, and eventually profitable users.

8. Use SMS marketing.

SMS marketing works similar to email marketing. People hardly even change their phone numbers, and they often forget to unsubscribe.
SMS works wonders because, just like Email, it is highly personal which helps convert users into purchasers.
But you can’t know for sure until you test and see if it genuinely works for you|.

9. Offer your app as a “White label” solution

If you have an incredibly original app, but you lack necessary skills in the sales and marketing departments, consider giving your app as a white label solution. It’s a process of creating a product or service and selling to a company who can brand it as their own.

10. Reactivate dormant users through email and push notifications.

Do not harass users, but make sure to incentivize by reminding what they’re missing out on by sending occasional email and push notification. Maybe, you can offer a small free offer to entice dormant users to become active.

11. Think sponsored content.

Let me tell you a well-kept secret about most apps: even if your app generates over 1 million downloads won’t guarantee you profitability.
Let’s say, you have a $1 product, and only 2% of users convert. To make a good income through apps, you’ll need a lot of downloads.
But, there are other ways to monetize your app. One of my favorite ways is via Sponsored Content.
While your user base may not generate enough income for you, you could probably find a brand willing to pay you a hefty amount of bucks to get their sponsored content in front of your user base.

12. Form partnerships and find sponsorships.

You can also find a partner or a sponsor who have a similar customer base as you do and propose them to cross-promote each other’s apps to other’s email list.
If you don’t have an email list, don’t panic!
You can offer a gift (an ebook, or a discount on your services) for free that your partner’s audience will love. In exchange for this gift, you can ask your partner to mention your brand to their audience and drive their audience towards your call to action (CTA).

13. Data monetisation

Make sure you are aware of the privacy laws and legal proceedings before you try to sell the data collected from the customer.
There are different ways for making money through customer data. One of the ways is to sell the data directly. The other way is to influence non-mobile decisions.

14. Start with a blended model

If you’re not sure what will work best for you, you can opt for a blended model.
You can use several of the tips shared above to monetize your app.
You’ll notice that one tactic outperforms the other.
And when you do, you’ll know for sure which model to repeat for more profits.

15. Start an email list

Display ads, social media, and SEO are all great techniques to monetize your app. But email is where all the profit lies.
If you don’t have an email list, consider offering a free offer (book, for example) in exchange for their email address.
When you build an email list, you can communicate directly with your customers, without having to rely on Google and Facebook.
And, one more thing. People hardly ever change their email address – meaning it can be a sales funnel that can last a lifetime.

Smartwatches and features

Smartwatches are becoming more predominant and are already replacing traditional watches.

They are becoming smarter – like smartphones – and offer superb features that let you do several things conveniently from your wrist.

There are several reasons why you should buy a smartwatch. You can use it for a lot of things like viewing notifications at a glance, picking calls from your wrist without pulling out your phone, using it as an activity tracker during your workout, and using NFC for mobile payment.
Whether you want to buy your first smartwatch or your next one, this guide will help you in choosing the watch of your dream that fits your lifestyle.

The Operating System (OS)

The first thing to look out for in a smartwatch is the operating system. Since most

smartwatches are dependent on smartphones, your choice should have a compatible OS with your smartphone.
Some of the operating systems include Android Wear, Tizen,

Microsoft Band 2, and Watch OS. While the first 3 are compatible with Android and iOS operating systems, watchOS only works with iOS (iPhone). And it’s known to be clean, fast, and consistent. Microsoft Band 2 also works with windows phones.

Some Android phones also work with the Watch OS, but you won’t enjoy the full functionalities you’ll get with iOS devices. This isn’t surprising since Watch OS is owned by Apple Inc.

Battery Life

Smartwatches last up to 2 days or less between charges. The battery life depends on the capacity and other factors like the display and duration of use.

Consider how many times you’re willing to charge your battery a day when buying your watch. Some only last for a few hours due to features like phone calls and internet connection.

It’s quite better to buy a watch that has USB charging port for ease of use. This way, you can easily charge your device with your android charger even if the charger that comes with it isn’t within your reach.
Some more sophisticated ones come with wireless chargers, which can be an advantage or disadvantage, depending on your lifestyle.

Display

Display matters a lot as it’s the first thing you’ll always set your eyes on when you look at your watch. The display types vary from LCD (Liquid-Crystal Display) to OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) to AMOLED (Active-Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode).

LCDs are bright and are very good for outdoor purposes but consume more power. They produce images on the screen using backlights.

OLED screens can display single-color, multi-color, or full-color while AMOLED is only a full-color screen. They produce rich colors with high contrasts and operate without a backlight. This makes them consume less power than LCD screens.
Newer and more sophisticated watches are designed with fortified glasses like the Corning Gorilla Glass that can handle wear and tear and is dust and scratch resistant.
Interface (Touchscreen or Button)

No doubt, touchscreen always wins when it comes to smartphones these days. This is also the case in smartwatches. But there’s little difference when it comes to convenience.

While smartphones sport large screens that are suitable for big fingers, smartwatches have small screens that make selecting options uneasy for big fingers.

Button-operated watches help you navigate and select options with the use of buttons. But this is becoming a thing of the past as most manufacturers have started to do away with buttons. There are models that combine both features.

Some touchscreen watches arrange your apps such that you can easily access your frequently used apps with one or two swipes without having to search around all the time.

Personalization

This is the ability to customize your device to suit your desire. Check out for watches with removable straps that allow the use of a third-party strap – if you get tired of using the same thing all the time.
The straps are available in different materials: rubber, leather, aluminum, and silicon among others.
The size also matters. Early generation watches sport large straps but the new ones are slimmer and, in most cases, more beautiful.

Comfort, design, and durability also matter. Make sure you choose a smartwatch that has the kind of quality, color, and design that you desire. Black is my best color when it comes to things like this because it matches all outfits.
Functionalities

The features a smartwatch offer determines how much fun and functionalities you’ll enjoy.

Some only display notifications and buzz you on your wrist when you have calls, emails, texts, or other pieces of information. Advanced ones allow you to connect to your phone via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to receive incoming calls, reply text messages, emails, and other notifications while your device is within range.

More recent ones allow you to insert your SIM card and actually make calls with your smartwatch on your wrist. They have internet access that enables you to synchronize your phone and use your watch in place of your phone from a far range. This way, you can leave your phone at home and still pick calls wherever you are.

But this feature consumes power and drains battery quick. So, it isn’t a feature you can continuously rely on for several hours without having to charge your phone from time to time.

Some smartwatches can also be used as activity trackers. They have pedometers for measuring steps, accelerometer for speed, and barometer for blood pressure. They monitor heart rate, sleep rate, and calorie gain or loss.

Also, look out for water-resistant devices but make sure you confirm its level of resistance. Some are only resistant to splash and few drops while others are resistant to up to certain meters in water.
Other Things to Consider

Your budget plays an important role in your choice of a smartwatch. Go for basic and low-cost ones with reasonable features if you’re on a low budget. A high-quality device with premium features should do if you have enough money to spend.

Customer reviews are also very important. It’s wise to learn from the experiences of others. Search for user reviews to know if a particular choice is worth the money.
Read reviews about other products produced by the manufacturer in a case where you can’t find any review on a particular model probably because it’s a newly launched device or for some other reasons.

Canon PowerShot S120: Perfect Camera for Youtube

Video blogs or vlogs are a new method of sharing our stories with entire world using traditional format of a blog, but with video footage instead of text and images. They provide more detailed information about the subject and in most cases, they are displayed as a series of videos, which at the end creates the final product. Video services such as YouTube give a good example of how vlogs have been able to change the nature of social media. The main advantage of vlogs is that they can also be shared on different platforms, allowing us to distributed the video in a wide range of formats over the Internet.

Vlogging can be an interesting hobby to explore, and if you really want to pursue your career in this profession you should have a good understanding of how to become a successful vlogger and what makes a good vlog. The first thing to acquire is acompact vlogging camera for youtube that can take good pictures and video. There are several types of video recorders that are available on the market that could be used as a tool to start video blogging, but there is a difference between acquiring a device that is useful and one that is less effective. Image quality is an important aspect when it comes to capturing the right scene. A smartphone may have the video capabilities to record memorable moments, but when it comes to creating a vlog that is outstanding and draws people’s attention, you have to consider buying something better than an ordinary camera.

In 2009, the leader in the production of cameras and other video equipment, Canon, reinvented their prosumer compact segment, introducing to the world, the Powershot S90. As time passed, further development in updating several key points to the line became the number one priority, allowing Canon to present their newest member to the S-Series family of cameras, the Powershot S120.
Design and Features
The primary feature of the S-Series line is combining a large sensor to a fast lens encased within a sleek and compact body. The design of the Powershot S120 is comparable to those features found in the S110. Image quality also remains outstanding, with ISO selection of 80-1600 and quick f/1.8 aperture that allows photographers to shoot high-quality images in low light conditions. With this new camera now it’s possible to capture the blurry background and sharp objects with less effort using brand new image processor.

The S120 carries a 5x optical zoom lens, but with a wider aperture than the S110. The Powershot S120 still uses the same reliable sensor system allowing the camera to still retain adequate performance, control, and quality. It’s worth mentioning that the autofocus system has been greatly improved and now it perfectly works in video mode as well. With a simple touch on the screen you can focus on the subject and still get the perfect shot for your vlog. In addition, this incredible camera has a remarkably good battery life, which allows blogger to have a full day’s worth of shooting time before it needs recharge. But in case if you need more power to capture the existing moments of your life, you can simply change the battery and continue shooting.
The lightness of the Powershot S120 along with its point and shoot ability makes this a versatile camera that can be easily stored in your pocket. The S120 has full 1080p HD recording capabilities, a touch screen that is perfect for changing camera settings and also the built-in WIFI module. Good control on white balance, with an excellent burst mode, and improved video sharpness has been able to make this camera an almost perfect vlogging gear, which provides power and accuracy in a very compact shape.

How do you start a vlog on YouTube?

Becoming a vlogger is more than just recording video and posting it on the internet, it also takes a special talent to know how to create a good content. So before buying new equipment you have to think about what topic would interest people. The vlog can be based upon any type of interest, but it must be something that is engaging. The content has to be unique and true to the nature of the individual or group that is presenting the vlog. The important message is not to duplicate material that is already on the internet but to create something unique, using your own ideas.

The Process of Recording and Editing

The next step is to create a good number of videos to be displayed on the site, which also gives credibility to your channel. The videos should be interesting and scheduled during the week, in order to provide relevant information to the viewers. Try to be specific about what you are shooting and always remember to capture interesting moments of your life. Editing is also important to deliver outstanding quality and to ensure that video has a right thumbnail, background, and other cool features that will catch the eyes of your visitors.

Make sure to communicate with those who follow your vlog and to collect any information that can help to build and improve the quality of your channel and its content. By understanding the value of this resource and its potential will allow you to develop and grow, your channel and become popular in your industry.
